United States presidential election, 2008: New Hampshire’s Stakes

Even before New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary got underway today, top tier Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican Mitt Romney, seen as slipping in polls, were promising to pursue their candidacy across 50 states.

On the eve of the New Hampshire primary, Republican Mike Huckabee reiterated his support for the troop surge amid attacks from Romney. “General Petraeus and our troops are giving their all to provide an opportunity for the Iraqi government to succeed, and setting a timetable for withdrawal is a mistake,” he said in a press release yesterday.
