A gambit (from ancient Italian gambetto, meaning tripping) is a chess opening in which a player, most often White, sacrifices material, usually a pawn, with the hope of achieving a resulting advantageous position.
Despite low popularity, unclear political agenda, perpetual clash inside the Liberal-Conservative coalition she “leads” (?), and harsh criticism that Germany is allowing its trade surplus to increase at the costs of the United States and several European countries, German Chancellor Angela Merkel was reelected as the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) – a conservative party who obviously seems to seek a new identity amidst boring debates on immigration and Muslims and beyond Good and Evil.

Dr. Angela Merkel brought in a new generation to replace her old rivals, who all resigned or stepped down from the German political stage. These departures, among them of old-fashioned political hooligans such as Roland Koch or Jürgen Rüttgers, leave leadership vacuum but newcomers like the smooth-boring shooting star of Bavaria, Minister of Defence Dr. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, or the Candy Man from Cologne, Minister for Environment Dr. Norbert Röttgen, could challenge Wannabe-Maggie-Chancellor Angela Merkel at the next election.
Angie or Norbert can make the CDU taste good ahead of 2013:
Sic transit gloria CDU.

P.S.: Special thanks to the great Sammy Davis Jr., who once said about himself: “What have I got? No looks, no money, no education. Just talent.” The most talentuous politician in Germany is definitely our friend Dr. Gregor Gysi; unfortunately he is on the bad side of the political street.
