United States presidential election, 2008: Obama’s controversy on Afghanistan

Mitt Romney and the Republican National Committee attacked (more here) Senator Barack Obama for saying the U.S. needs to “have enough troops so that we’re not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians” in Afghanistan.

Romney’s spokesperson said the comment was an “entirely inaccurate condemnation of the efforts” of U.S. soldiers.

The AP‘s Fact Check reports, however, that U.S. forces have killed more civilians than insurgents have this year.
