Pakistani Politics: Bhutto seeks deal with Musharraf

News reports today gave conflicting details over the outcome of talks between Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Bhutto told Britain’s Daily Telegraph that she and Musharraf had reached a deal that would allow her to return to the country and strike a power-sharing agreement in which he would retain his presidency but cede control of the country’s military.

An unnamed Pakistani government official confirmed this news to al-Jazeera. But a spokesman for Musharraf today said he had yet to decide on such a deal.
