France warns Iran

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said the world should ready itself for war if Iran proceeds with its nuclear program. “We have to prepare for the worst, and the worst is war,” Kouchner said.

In response Iran’s IRNA news agency said the “extremism” of French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s administration has created an “obstacle” in the way of resolving Iran’s nuclear issue. Reuters noted an emerging split between French and German officials on policy toward Iran.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials announced they intercepted Iranian arms shipments destined for the Taliban in Afghanistan and said weapons flows between the former enemies appear to be escalating.
