Ahmadinejad UN Speech

At the United Nations General Assembly yesterday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared “the nuclear issue of Iran is now closed” in the UN Security Council, saying it is now a matter for the UN nuclear agency.

Ahmadinejad also spoke in broad terms about his world philosophy in a speech the BBC called “part religious sermon, part a tirade against globalization and modernization.” Ahmadinejad cited “broad and destructive aggressions” by external powers intending to plunder Iranian wealth.

Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency focused on Ahmadinejad’s assertion of the legality of Iran’s nuclear program, noting his dismissal of recent threats from Western states of added sanctions.

Former governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney published a column in National Review Online yesterday calling for the indictment of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad under the Genocide Convention and laying out his strategy for dealing with the rogue state. He also says he will create a “Partnership for Prosperity and Progress” to provide “progressive” Arab communities with economic benefits like microcredit loans and funding for secular public schools.
