United States presidential election, 2008: Statements on Iran

Senator John McCain said on This Week it is vital to stop Iran’s nuclear program but he would not discuss specific military tactics that might be necessary.

Senator Chris Dodd said on Meet the Press that the new sanctions on Iran are “the right way to go” but warned against the Bush administration’s “drumbeat” toward war.

Senator Barack Obama told the New York Times Hillary Clinton is “straddling between the Giuliani, Romney side of the foreign policy equation and the Barack Obama side of the equation.” He also said Hillary Clinton tries to “sound or vote” like a Republican on national security.

Washington Post‘s columnist Sebastian Mallaby defends Hillary Clinton, saying she has taken a sensible position on Iran.
