Pakistan’s Elections

An article in the BBC previews Pakistan’s February 18, 2008 parliamentary elections and questions whether voters in the country’s tribal regions might be experiencing “mullah fatigue,” given recent violence in the region.

The Christian Science Monitor notes that the legacy of slain opposition leader Benazir Bhutto has propelled Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party ahead in recent election polls.

A recent article by Teresita Schaffer of the Center for Strategic and International Studies looks at arguments that Pakistan’s government should transition away from the government of President Pervez Musharraf. The article concludes that stability remains more important than political change.
